4 March 2019 – The first batch of House Officers have reported duty and is currently undergoing a week long of orientation before starting in respective departments. This batch consists of 37 House Officers.
Our department was given two slots during the tightly packed orientation week. The first one, “Sharps Injury”, was given by OSH Unit. Subsequently, Public Health Unit briefed the new house officers on notification of communicable diseases.
These two talks are important introductory topics for new healthcare workers, especially those who function as the frontliners in the clinical or ward setting. Reminders were instilled in them on how important it is to have good phlebotomy practice to avoid getting sharps injuries. Public Health Unit, on the other hand, went through the notification process for communicable diseases.
At the end of the two talks, the House Officers were noticeably saturated with valuable information. We hope that they retain and practise them all when they start work next week!
